BIO WALL SYSTEM PROCESS
|
PRIMARY VS SECONDARY
The system is a secondary system as a part of existing HVAC. These compounds are delivered to the microbes by actively drawing air through the biowall via the HVAC system. Once the air passes through the first layer of the rooting material, many of the VOCs dissolve in the recirculating water, delivering a source of carbon to the root-associated microbes.

NUMERIC PARAMETERS
Purdue University conducted a study which compared the energy use of the outside air ventilation system and the energy recovery ventilation system both working alone to the energy use of these systems combined with a biowall. When used in a residential home the outside air ventilation system combined with a biowall has been found to save on average about $169 more when compared to the system being used alone. Meanwhile, the energy recovery ventilation combined with a biowall saves about $23 for a residential household in comparison to the energy recovery ventilation alone. On top of being cost effective, there is also an environmental advantage to the introduction of combining these energy sources with a biowall. Biowalls have the potential capability of removing 60-90% of pollutants in only one pass in addition to reducing overall pollutant concentration in an environment by about 25%.This data can be observed in the diagrams.
